P R Harikumar

P.R.Harikumar is a writer in Malayalam, the language of Kerala which is one of the southern states in India. He was born in a small town -Attingal- in Kerala in 1960. He took his M.A.in Malayalam Literature from Kerala University and M.Phil. from Calicut University. By profession he is a college lecturer. He is working at the Dept. of Malayalam, Sree Sankara College, Kalady, Ernakulam.

He started his literary career at the age of 15 by writing poems and stories.His first work published in a magazine was a story called 'Muthassiyude Vazhi'(1980). His first book, a collection of stories with the title, 'Niram Veezhunna Varakal' was published in 1990. In 1998 another collection of his stories-'Aliyunna Alroopangal' was published through Current Books, Kottayam. He has keen interest in literary criticism also. In the book 'Vakkinte Souhrudam'(published through Current Books, Thrissur in 1992) you can read his thoughts on some basic principles of art and literature. He is very particular in veiwing literature as one of the cultural and aesthetic expression of human race.

He got Thunchan Smarak Samman from Kerala Sahitya Akademi in 1988 for his literary thesis on 'The development of poetic language in malayalam'.
