N.P.Rajendran is News Editor of Mathrubhumi Daily, the most respected and reliable newspaper in Kerala, with a circulation of over one million. He is in journalism for the last twenty-four years, joining Mathrubhumi as a Journalism trainee in 1981,after post-graduating in Economics .
He has worked as Staff Reporter of the paper in the city centers of Kozhikode, Palakkad, Kollam, Thrissur and Kannur. Apart from reporting daily developments in these districts he had traveled all around the state and prepared numerous investigative reports which had won him several awards and a lot of appreciation. The series of articles exposing the economic exploitation and the environmental damage of the Grasim Rayon Company ,situated on the banks of River Chaliyar in Calicut , in 1988 was just on of them. Before that he had prepared series of reports on the bad condition of the government run public schools of Kerala. Wide spread corruption in land deals was another subject he handled for in-depth reporting in 1989.He studied the environmental damages caused to the 44 rivers of the state in 1990. This was published as eight parts serial. Serialized reports on the bad state of the dams (1991), various aspects of the Energy Crisis faced by the state (1992), Bad state of the local self government institutions named as District Councils(1992), sorry plight of the Kerala born men who were forced to take citizenship in the ‘enemy’ state of Pakistan when it was formed in 1947 (1994),in-depth study of the social background of the political killings that took place in two places ie Nadapuram (1988) and Thalassery(1995) are some of the investigative/developmental reports Written by him.
